Sagging, bubbling and staining need not share the same cause. Understand the condition of existing layers before choosing a new finish. If there is an active leak, new lining will not remove its source; that issue needs separate resolution.
Preparation is the work you do not see
The substrate beneath the old material affects the new application. Sailrite’s headlining guides illustrate foam-backed materials and different surface options. A useful conclusion is that no single lining and fixing method should automatically be assumed suitable for every boat.
Look at samples inside the boat
A pale material can look different on a workbench and under the boat’s lighting. Compare it with the wood tones and natural light. Texture, panel joints and finishing around ceiling lights all contribute to the overall appearance.
Clarify the scope in writing
Discuss which ceiling areas will be renewed, what needs removal and how service access will be retained. This is not a cabin wall-lining service. Electrical or structural repairs, if needed, should be treated as separate specialist work.
