Dinghy chaps are sewn fabric covers fitted over inflatable tubes. Our light, grey and navy examples show how different tube shapes, consoles and access points call for an individual pattern.

A fitted pattern with accessible fittings
The bow curve, side tubes and aft ends have different shapes. Patterns follow these areas while allowing for handles, valves, towing points and other equipment. Parts needed in use should not be indiscriminately covered.
Fabric protection is not tube repair
This service concerns textile protection over the tubes. It is not offered as air-leak repair, retubing or PVC/Hypalon repair. Problems with the tube itself need the relevant technical assessment before a cover is fitted.
Rubbing points and edge details
Discuss where the dinghy is used, contact with other surfaces and boarding positions. Local reinforcement, lower-edge attachment and removability are design considerations. A fixing method is not assumed suitable without assessing the existing boat.
Access for maintenance
Being able to inspect the tubes underneath and remove the chaps when necessary matters. Follow the fabric care guidance separately from the dinghy manufacturer’s tube instructions. Engine or console covers can be scoped separately.

01Does this mean replacing the inflatable tubes?
No. This application is a fabric cover over the tubes, rather than repair or replacement of the airtight tube material.
02Will one pattern fit every model?
No. Tube diameter, bow shape, valves, handles and fittings vary. Measurements and a pattern from the actual dinghy are needed.
03Can an engine cover be considered too?
Protection for engines and consoles can be discussed separately. Suitability while an engine is running cannot be assumed without verifying ventilation and exhaust requirements.
