Bigger is not automatically more practical
A wider bimini can cover more area, but it also changes its relationship with movement and equipment on board. Steps, side access, the helm and boom clearance on sailing boats belong in the assessment. Work from the actual layout rather than catalogue dimensions alone.
Let use determine the height
A tall bimini may feel spacious, but shade moves as the sun gets lower. Discuss seating positions together with the times of day you use the boat. Judging shade from one midday photograph can overlook morning and evening needs.
Where will it sit when folded?
The stowed arrangement matters as much as the open appearance. Check whether the folded frame and canvas will obstruct boarding, visibility or other equipment. If the old system is awkward, mention this before asking for an identical replacement.
A short preparation list
Have the boat model, photographs of the existing frame, your usual way of using the boat and any sprayhood connection request ready. View the colour in a physical sample. An open-sided sun canopy should not be expected to behave like a closed enclosure against rain arriving from the side.
