A cover is different from upholstery
The upholstery is the cushion’s working surface; a protective cover sits over it when it is not in use. Make clear which one you need when discussing a project. Protecting one cushion and covering a whole seating group require different measurements and fastenings.
An awkward cover gets used less
Think about the daily routine: who fits the cover, how much room is available and which side is accessible? Hard-to-reach fastenings can become frustrating. Consider the actual fitting and removal movements as well as the area being covered.
Do not skip moisture checks
Look at the cushions when you lift the cover. If they are wet, consider drying and ventilation instead of simply covering them again. Follow the particular fabric’s instructions; the internal cushion construction and outer surface may need different care.
Identify the product before cleaning
Sunbrella’s marine upholstery guide describes removing dirt, cleaning with suitable mild soap, thorough rinsing and air drying for its own fabrics. The same method or chemical does not suit every upholstery material. Keep the product information for the cover and the cushions separately to make later care decisions easier.
