Check the view from your actual position
Do not judge a sprayhood only from outside. Standing and sitting at the helm create different sightlines. Panel edges, frame members and seams should be considered from those positions. Companionway headroom is a separate check.
An opening window is a design decision
If you want an opening section, discuss how it will be used. Will it roll up, come out completely or fasten in an open position? The chosen clear material’s handling and storage instructions may constrain the arrangement. Clear panels are not all constructed or maintained in the same way.
Identify the material before cleaning
For its own clear vinyl products, Strataglass recommends rinsing salt and environmental residue with fresh water and using suitable soft cloths. This does not mean the same chemical can be used on every clear plastic. Identifying your material and its care instructions is a sound starting point.
Assess the complete assembly
An ageing window does not always require replacement of the entire sprayhood. Conversely, if surrounding canvas and zips are also worn, a limited repair may offer less value. Consider panels, canvas, stitching and frame together before deciding the scope.
